The end is near...

As was supposedly  written by Geoffrey Chaucer in 1374, “All good things must come to an end.”  After a tumultuous year following Elmo’s passing, the family has decided to sell the property and thus force an end of the Lazy S Hunt Club.

The property has been listed with Mossy Oak Properties and in speaking with Jon Collins, the agent, I am told that there are already a couple of hot prospects and he will be showing the property today or tomorrow for the first time. (http://www.mossyoakproperties.com/land/30758)

This posting is to serve as a notification to all members that because of the pending changes, the gate lock will be changed effective April 30, 2017.  If any members have personal property (tree stands, feeders, etc.) on the property or in the cabin, they will need to be retrieved before that date or forfeit to the new owners.

It has been a great run and some of my fondest memories over the past decade have been surrounding the Lazy S and its members.

Thanks,
DGV

Check out the size of this Coyote which attacked a 3D target last week.  He is damn near as big as the deer! No real harm done...just a little chewing on the ear of the decoy.

2016 Gun Season Report

The 2016 Ohio Gun Season is in the books and a memorable one it was! We had between 7 and 10 hunters in camp all week and started things off on Sunday with a magnificent meal consisting of a variety of freshly smoked meats, (thanks to Mark Sizemore) and some tasty sides and desserts.

A total of 6 or 7 deer were tagged during the week with the Big Buck Contest money going to one of the Georgia Boys with this nice entry...

The largest deer of the week was taken on Wednesday evening by Dustin, and it was a brute!

By Thursday, this monster was caped, iced down and ready to go to the taxidermist for mounting.

Mark your calendars for the 2 day "mini-Season" which will take place on December 17-18.

Then, the last opportunity to hunt deer with firearms will happen during the 4 day Muzzleloader Season, scheduled for Jan. 7 - 10.

Another one bites the dust...

Member Cody from the Dayton area arrowed a nice buck on Friday. Looks to be a 9-point.  Congratulations Cody!

Take a look at this monster buck, that was supposedly taken a few miles south of the Lazy S in Scioto County!  This time of year, you never know just what will show up when the big boys are in pursuit of the does.

Success!  Corey and Matt from the great State of Michigan are at the camp this week and just sent this picture of a nice little 8-point which made the mistake of walking under Corey's stand.  Lots of activity in the woods this week and the chase is definitely on!!!

Wood Cutting Event a HUGE Success!

Caption this...

A big THANKS to all who took time out of their busy schedules to lend a hand this past weekend to make the 2016 Wood Cutting Ball and huge success.  Nearly 2 cords of hickory and ash were cut, split and stacked in preparation for the coming fall and winter hunting. Many "out of towners" showed up for the event, and even the venerable and infamous Jim Bibby was there!

The work went quickly and efficiently thanks lots of hands, lots of chain saws and the use of two hydraulic splitters. (A special thanks to Chuck Breech and Mark Sizemore for bringing these along!)
After the work was done, what has been called "the best feast ever" (which is saying something for the Lazy S!) was enjoyed by all.  Mark Newman and his portable grill made sure we had many pounds of pork chops, venison tenderloin, pork tenderloin and all the fixin's to go along.

Before digging in, we had a tearful and funny trip down memory lane to pay tribute to Elmo, without who's generosity and vision, none of us would have been there!  Thanks Elmo, we miss you!
